About Us

The Copernicum is an all-high school student run research journal that seeks to facilitate dicussion about some of the most pressing modern issues in science, society, and law. A subsidiary publication of The Triple Helix, Inc., The Copernicum currently consists of 3 chapters nationwide and will begin its first literary cycle in the 2007 Spring Semester. Across the nation, high school students are doing important research that often goes unheard or unappreciated because they do not possess the same credentials as higher professionals in the field.

Nicholas Copernicus was a Polish scientist who first thought of the idea of a heliocentric universe. His proposal was rejected by the society he lived in, yet he strived to make his voice heard. He wisely stated, “Finally we shall place the Sun himself at the center of the Universe. All this is suggested by the systematic procession of events and the harmony of the whole Universe, if only we face the facts, as they say, ‘with both eyes open’.” The Copernicum, too, encourages all students to move forth with our eyes wide open, aware of society, law, science, and ethics, and their evident interrelation.

Through the innovation and leadership of students from several excellent and academically acclaimed high schools, The Copernicum aims to become a top-level online publication and establish itself as a widely recognized forum for discussion.
